The rubber internal kneader has the same functions as the open internal mixer and is also a plastic mixing and plasticizing equipment. The difference from the open mixer is that the internal mixer is a closed type, used to mix and plasticize raw materials. There are no shortcomings of the open mixers, such as flying dust, manual operation by workers, and long mixing and plasticizing time. Due to the special structure of the mixing rotor of the internal mixer, the raw materials are mixed in a closed, high-temperature mixing chamber. The mixing and plasticizing time of the raw materials by the internal mixer are shorter than that of an open mixer. It has the advantages of uniform plastic raw materials, good plasticization quality, and high work efficiency. In the calendar production line, the internal mixer is generally used in the next process of the internal mixer, and the hot mixed raw materials are directly added to the rubber internal kneader chamber for mixing and plasticizing.

The rubber internal kneader is mainly used for the plasticization and mixing of rubber. It can also be used for the mixing of plastics, asphalt materials, linoleum materials, and synthetic resin materials. The rubber internal kneader is one of the main rubber mixing equipment in the rubber factory. Since the 1970s, although foreign rubber mixing technology and equipment have developed rapidly, for example, screw extruders are used to replace internal mixers and open mixers for plastic mixing, but they still cannot replace internal mixers. The rubber mixing equipment of the new modern factory is still dominated by internal mixers, and the mixing method still adopts the two-stage mixing method.
